Hurricanes hoping to end long Dallas drought

Hockey Betting Lines

03/12/2009 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Though the Carolina Hurricanes franchise hasn't won in Dallas in over 13 years, they won't exactly play a Stars club that is on a roll in Texas this evening.

Carolina will aim to extend Dallas' six-game home losing streak in tonight's matchup at American Airlines Center.

The Hurricanes haven't posted a victory in Dallas since February 11, 1996, when they were still known as the Hartford Whalers. They have gone winless in seven trips since. losing six contests while posting a tie in 2001. In fact, the home team is 10-1 with a pair of ties in the last 13 games in the series.

These two clubs haven't met since Carolina's 5-4 home win on November 18, 2006 that halted its three-game series losing streak. This marks the first meeting between the teams in Dallas since December of 2005.

The Hurricanes have posted points in five straight games to move into a tie with Pittsburgh for sixth overall in the Eastern Conference. Both clubs lead eight-seeded Florida by a point.

Carolina had matched a season-best four-game winning streak prior to Wednesday's 3-2 shootout loss to Chicago. Both clubs scored twice through the first three rounds of the extra session before the Blackhawks' Kris Versteeg beat Cam Ward with a wrister just below the crossbar. Sergei Samsonov then failed to extend the shootout for Carolina.

Rod Brind'Amour scored for the third straight game, while former Blackhawk Tuomo Ruutu also tallied for the Hurricanes, who suffered just their third loss in the last 11 games and had outscored their opponents 23-6 over their four-game win streak. Ward stopped 39-of-41 shots in the loss.

Carolina plays the middle portion of a three-game road trip tonight and is 17-14-5 as the guest. They visit Washington on Saturday.

The Stars return home after Tuesday's 5-2 setback in St. Louis. Dallas hasn't won as the host since February 19 and has fallen to 17-13-4 in Big D this season.

In Tuesday's loss, James Neal and Mike Ribeiro scored for struggling Dallas, which fell to 2-7-1 in its last 10 games. Marty Turco started in goal for the Stars but was pulled midway through the first period, after he allowed three goals on eight shots. Tobias Stephan made 17 saves in relief.

Despite Dallas' recent success versus the 'Canes, Turco is just 1-3-0 with a 2.59 goals against average against them lifetime.

The Stars are now 10th overall in the West, one point back of a playoff spot. They are tied with Minnesota in the standings with 70 points and will host the Wild on Saturday.

Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Odds

Will he or won't he?  Now that the Dallas Cowboys have a new head coach in Wade Phillips, the big question will be: Does Terrell Owens stay with the team.

Jerry Jones continues to suggest that Terrell Owens will remain with the team.

"I've said that he's back, he's here, he's under contract," Jones said. "In the interviews I've just been through (to hire a new coach), it was very clear to me how highly he's thought of and how much of an impact he had on our offensive success."

Just to be sure though, Terrell Owens cleared out his locker and removed his name plate.

Terrell Owens was among the Cowboys most productive players this past season, catching 85 passes for 1,180 yards and a league-best 13 touchdowns.

But T.O. is due a $3 million roster bonus in June, then a $5 million salary this season. Cutting him before then would save a lot of money and headaches.

Aside from the questions surrounding Terrell Owens, the oddsmakers at MySportsbook.com have concerns over starting quarterback Tony Romo's state of mind and whether he will remain a starting quarterback.  It is also not known how players will adjust to new head coach, Wade Phillips.

Here are the football odds as seen at MySportsbook.com and subject to change after February 10, 2007 if not locked in prior to that date.
